About the author

A doctor trying to understand what makes ordinary life better.

Manu Sidhu is a doctor working in psychiatry, with a longstanding interest in psychology, behaviour and the science of wellbeing.

Raising Your Baseline is an attempt to build a clearer framework for understanding what shapes how life feels over time: why good things become normal, why we chase highs, why lows can linger, which psychological capacities travel across different parts of life, and how temporary changes can become durable ones.

The project is being written in public. New chapters will be added to the live book as they are written, while the diagrams and interactive explanations develop alongside them.

Science without pretending certainty.

Clear distinctions between established evidence, useful models and ideas still being tested.

Practical without becoming prescriptive.

The aim is better questions and better models, not a universal recipe for happiness.

Personal without becoming clinical.

The site can help you reflect on your own patterns, but it is not a diagnostic or treatment tool.
